GlasGrid for Runway/Taxiway Reinforcement– Saint Gobain


“GlasGrid” is the composite material consisting of high-tensile knitted fiberglass grid. It is the fiberglass asphalt reinforcement for pavements. GlasGrid Paving Reinforcement combines strength and elasticity for long lasting performance and helps arrest the cycle of pavement cracking.

The series of GlasGrid products are mainly designed to prevent the reflective cracking in the pavement or milled surface, by turning crack stresses horizontally to dissipate the stress. Besides, rutting problem can be solved by up to 25%. It reinforces asphalt layers, by installing between the old pavement asphalt layer and new top asphalt layer, like a sandwich. GlasGrid series can extend pavement life by up to 300%.

For example, the Glasgrid CGL series, the grid has the patented polymer coating in order to reach the effective bonding between asphalt layers. The lightweight nonwoven polyester geotextile works as a bonding support and offers a high asphalt retention.

The series of GlasGrid products are

1.    GlasGrid TF (TackFilm) : GlasGrid TF contains a patented tack film that offer the benefits of tack coat, this tack film enhances performance of overlay, resulting in extended life. While the fiberglass grid itself provides protection against reflective cracking. When tack film is heated by hot asphalt mixture, it becomes gluey and create bonding between asphalts and GlasGrid.
  GlasGrid TF is usually used in double overlays and smooth surface.

2.    GlasGrid CG (CompoGrid) : GlasGrid CG products contain a non-woven fabric layer. It is fiberglass reinforcement with modified polymer coating and bonded to a nonwoven polypropylene that is saturated with bitumen, which provides an effective moisture barrier, as well as additional pavement protection, and result in higher asphalt retention. It’s specially designed for asphalt overlay. 
GlasGrid CG is usually used in single overlay, with/without waterproofing required. 

 

3.    GlasGrid CGL (CompoGridLight) : Glasgrid CGL is a composite material consisting of high-tensile fiberglass grid bonded to an open lightweight nonwoven polyester geotextile (35 g/m2). The grid has a high mesh stiffness due to our patented polymer coating for the effective bonding between asphalt layers. The lightweight geotextile works as a bonding support and offers a high asphalt retention, which ensures a quick and efficient installation.

GlasGrid CGL is usually used in single overlay, with/without waterproofing required.


 
4.    GlasGrid GG : The open aperture design of GlasGrid features fiberglass coated with elastic polymer helps to decrease shear potential, which usually found in other pavement fabric, postpones the need for complete reconstruction and lower maintenance cost.
GlasGrid GG is usually used in double overlays and smooth surface.
